It Takes a Village: How Behave Your Best Partners with Other Trusted Child Behavior Professionals

When a child is struggling, parents rarely come to us in a vacuum. More often, a team is already forming around the family: a pediatrician who flagged a concern, a teacher sending home behavioral notes, a therapist working on anxiety, or a neuropsychologist who just completed an evaluation.

At Behave Your Best, we put a lot of energy into working alongside fellow child behavior professionals to support your child’s growth.

Why? Because when everyone working with a child is using consistent strategies and speaking the same language, kids notice and strategies start to click.

Why It Matters Who Else Is in the Room

Behavior doesn’t happen in one place. A child who falls apart at home might hold it together at school. A child who just received a new diagnosis may need strategies that reflect what the evaluation revealed. A child in therapy for emotional regulation needs the adults at home and in clinical settings responding in compatible ways.

Behave Your Best actively builds relationships with pediatricians, therapists, teachers, child care providers, coaches, school psychologists, and neuropsychologists who serve the same families we do. We share frameworks, talk through what we’re each seeing, and compare approaches to help support successful outcomes.

It’s quieter work than a lot of what we do, but it matters enormously.

A Recent Example: Minnesota Neuropsychology

Behave Your Best recently spent an afternoon training the clinical team at Minnesota Neuropsychology (MNNP). It’s one of the top neuropsychological evaluation practices we refer families to, so it was a joy for us to spend time helping the team better understand how to support children throughout the neuropsychological evaluation process.

The training focused on making neuropsychological evaluation day a genuinely good experience for children and their caregiver(s). During the process, a child spends hours with new people, doing challenging tasks that often highlight the very things they find hardest.

The MNNP team already brings exceptional clinical skill to that evaluation process. What we added was a behavior lens: practical tools for supporting a child throughout the day, not just at the assessment table.

A few of the strategies the team came away with:

  • Follow the Child’s Lead: Pay attention to what the child needs moment to moment. Something as simple as shifting attention off them (“I need a stretch break, you can join me if you’d like!”) can ease pressure without losing momentum.
  • Connection Before Correction: Build rapport before redirecting. When a child feels safe, cooperation tends to follow.
  • Avoidance is a Signal, Not Misbehavior: When a child pulls back, they’re communicating they’ve hit capacity. The right response is to approach quietly, reduce demands, and reconnect.
  • Choices Create Control: Offering real choices around pacing, breaks, and transitions gives children a sense of ownership that keeps things moving.
  • Pretend You Are a Light Switch®: One of BYB’s core concepts: when a child’s “light switch” is off, their behavior reflects it. The goal is helping the adults around them respond in ways that help kids find their way back to “on,” calmly and consistently.

The MNNP recently covered this training in their newsletter, noting that they want every child who walks through their doors to feel understood, celebrated, and empowered. We’re proud to have contributed to that.

Confident Parents. Peaceful Homes.

Whether we’re consulting with a school team on a behavior plan, coordinating with a child’s therapist, or spending an afternoon collaborating with neuropsychological evaluation teams like those at Minnesota Neuropsychology, the goal is the same: every adult in a child’s life can be a point of consistency. The more those adults are working from the same foundation, the more effective everyone’s efforts become.

Behave Your Best offers in-home and virtual parenting support, resources, and strategies to help you understand what’s behind your child’s behavior and what to do next.

With practical solutions and years of expertise, we guide you through challenging moments and provide you the tools to parent with confidence. Because you deserve to feel confident—and every family deserves a peaceful home.
